INTRODUCTION
Food plays a part in all our lives. Without it, we wouldn’t last long on this planet. Consuming food is not only a basic need, it is also the most stringent routine we will ever develop during our lifetime. Eating for survival has been replaced, at least for the majority of people on this planet; to consuming food out of love for different palates, and often for the social interactions that go with it.
Although many people tend to eat a lot, even too much, they mostly remain unaware of the harm food can have on your health. Many tend to believe that all food that is available in the shops must be safe to consume, no? Well, think again!
Food additives are greatly understudied but allowed in almost all countries. Not only are many processed foods proven to be toxic for humans, they may also be prone to chemical and microbial contamination, food adulteration, mislabelling (38% of food items do not contain what is stated on the label), or they may be genetically modified without you knowing (Gizaw 2019).
